Statements trackerSuper intelligence statements and adoption, dated and sourced

Selected dated steps in the term's adoption — government orders, lab branding, researcher warnings and the pushback — linked to its source and labelled by evidence strength. Last reviewed Oct 8, 2026. Neutral by design; see the policy explainer and the concept explainer.

Safe Superintelligence Inc. founded

SSI was founded by Ilya Sutskever, Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. Its name expresses its research goal; it does not establish that a superintelligence has been built.

“Superintelligence is within reach. Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time.”

Statement wording checked against the fetched SSI page recorded in the term evidence; June 19 founding date is secondary evidence, not a date printed with this statement. Page retrieved October 8, 2026.

Microsoft announces the MAI Superintelligence Team

Mustafa Suleyman’s essay “Towards Humanist Superintelligence” announces the team and distinguishes matching human performance from going beyond it.

“If AGI is often seen as the point at which an AI can match human performance at all tasks, then superintelligence is when it can go far beyond that performance.”

Executive Order 14434 signed

The order directs executive-branch terminology changes to the maximum extent permitted by law. Its interim definition refers to technologies covered by the existing statutory definition of AI. Published October 2, 2026 in Federal Register volume 91, number 190, pages 63129–63130; filed October 1.

“the executive branch shall use the terms ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in place of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’”

White House publishes the accompanying fact sheet

The fact sheet describes the executive-branch rename. It also describes the July 2025 AI Action Plan and a March 2026 policy framework in SI terms. This records the fact sheet’s wording, not a claim that the earlier documents used that vocabulary.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to replace the term “Artificial Intelligence” (“AI”) with “Super Intelligence” (“SI”) in the executive branch…”

Ellipsis marks the continuation of the same sentence in the original fact sheet.

Nov 28, 2026 (expected)

Calculated date: proposed federal definition due

Section 3(b) requires proposed legislative language within 60 days of the September 29 order. November 28 is the calendar calculation of that interval, not a separately announced event or proof that a new definition will take effect then.

Evidence and open questions

This launch tracker includes only entries whose dates and wording can be tied to the reviewed evidence. It is not an exhaustive timeline. A page retrieval date is not an announcement date, and a future deadline is not an accomplished event.

We have not established official positions for China, the EU or OpenAI from primary documents in this evidence set. Absence from this tracker does not establish non-adoption. The date of the reported State Department email is disputed between September 22 and 23, so it is omitted from the dated series. Reports based only on snippets are excluded pending full-source verification.

The primary documents and corporate statements use the term in different senses. See the FAQ before reading an administrative rename or a company’s ambition as a capability claim.
